Need Outbound filtering, Exchange Smarthost

Hey,

We host about 300 users on exchange, and recently had a client machine send a ton of spam.  Then came blacklists, then came cleaning, then non stop linger issues from being listed once.

Does anyone know a good app, or a good 3rd party smart host to send our outbound email too to prevent this from happening in the future, and to also solve the lingering non deliveries we get?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Client machine means, internal user? How email was sent, via script?

Trojan, client machine at client location (exchange in a VM in a datacenter off prem)

Need tips on a good and inexpensive smart host.

Look for Message Labs or Trend Micro. Both are good. Or you can implement on-premises solution like BrightMail from Symantec or Mail Marshal.

Secondly, you need to use relay connectors to restrict anyone sending anonymous emails.

Did the emails go through your server?

If so, that is pretty unusual. Most malware will send the email out directly, so blocking port 25 outbound for everything but Exchange will stop them in their tracks.

We've used Mimecast for about 3-4 years and have been very happy with it's filtering and other features. We also have archiving with them as well as secure email delivery, if you need that kind of thing.
