Vm virtualbox machines too slow

Hello Experts,
We are virtualizing on a TOSHIBA SATTELITE C55-B with 8 Gb Ram using Oracle Virtualbox

xp vm machines work pretty fast but win 7 virtual machines are very slow and worse with win 8.1 vm machines

we only use one virtual machine most of the time for our job but sometimes we need two.

are there any settings I can change to make win 8.1 virtual machine faster ?
Hope there is no need to change hardware...
Please your advice
Regards!!

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

What is the Host hardware ?

How much memory have you allocated to the Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 VMs ?

Also how many vCPUs have you added to the VMs ?
