Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

If the license was OEM, then the Certificate of Authenticity should of been glued to the computer.

If you got a FPP license and the key is not on the original Windows disk envelope, contact the vendor and ask for the key.

If you have a Volume license, ask your administrator for the key.

vendor is asking it is saved in  motherboard and machine is out warranty they are not supporting now.
is this written in bios?
Dan CraciunIT ConsultantCommented:
Don't think so.

If the license was OEM, then using the recovery media should not ask you for a key.

Is Windows 8 that old? Normal workstation warranty is 3 years, no?

parts warranty is there only, what is this oem?
is this possible it is saved in motherboard, i checked bios its not there
PowerEdgeTechIT ConsultantCommented:
Yes, OEM license keys for Windows 8.x are coded into the BIOS. If you use correct media, it will automatically pick up the key, otherwise you need to use a utility called RWEverything (ACPI, MSDM) to read the key from the BIOS to activate it manually. The key is not displayed in the BIOS screens.
☠ MASQ ☠Commented:
The activation key is embedded in the BIOS but not visible normally see:

If you're getting prompted for an activation key for a machine with an embedded UEFI key you are using the wrong installation media.
SM_exchangeAuthor Commented:
@power i installed it can you tell me option will tell me bios info, lot of buttons there.
PowerEdgeTechIT ConsultantCommented:
It is in the ACPI table, on the MSDM tab.
SM_exchangeAuthor Commented:
ok i accepted its an wrong media, can you tell me how to see product key.
☠ MASQ ☠Commented:
It's in the article I linked to - you can't view it in the system BIOS you need to extract the key manually with software - but it's no help to you if you have the wrong installation DVD unless you are intending to install some kind of retail or volume licence - if your intention is to install an OEM version of Windows you'll need the correct OEM installation DVD.
PowerEdgeTechIT ConsultantCommented:
Explained above.

You can use Linux to extract the key too. They key should work with "almost" any media used to install Windows.

Click on the ACPI Table button at the top. After that click on the MSDM tab. Your BIOS’s product key is at the bottom.
