Install printer driver

hi,

I have an older HP J5750.  I want to use it to print remotely from my office while I am in my home.
I use remote desktop to log into my office, when I am in my house.
I have been told that I just need the driver for this machine on my office workstation as it is already on my home workstation, and that remote desktop will make its own connection.

when I try to install the driver on my  office workstation , it looks for the printer. The printer is not there, it is in my house. the installation fails.

I am told there is a trick to installing the driver anyway. I am not interested in the scanning installation , only the printer driver.

can anyone help ?

What you want is the Basic Printer Software (not the full function software)

http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Officejet-J5700-All-in-One-Printer-series/3301122/model/3301738

It says on the page If you only want the drivers (without the Full Software Suite), it is available as a separate download named "HP Officejet Basic Print and Scan Driver".

I do not see that on the page I linked to above; only the full function  is there..

I think you might find the driver on the page, but there are several pages to scroll through.

http://www8.hp.com/us/en/hp-search/search-results.html?ajaxpage=1&jumpid=se_r1002_usen_ac#/page=1&/qt=hp%20officejet%20basic%20print%20and%20scan%20driver

Once you have the basic driver, it should install in the office.

When you establish a remote connection, make sure you are attaching your printer, it is under the local resources tab, and make sure printers are attached to the RDP connection.

The HP printer drivers are often pushed/included in OS and via windows update.

The trick in installing drivers for printers that will not be detected is to add a simple ASCII printer.
Then you would update the driver for this printer using have software where the drivers for your printer model J5750 printer. Are extracted from HP download You could trigger the windows update to load in all drivers Ms has which should include the one you have,
Once the printer/driver is loaded. You can delete this intermediate printer.
On your subsequent login, your J5750 printer should be loaded and set as the default.

Note, that your ADMIN, may block attaching printers, drives, etc. via RDP.  You can confirm the event log to see whether it reports errors about the drivers for the printer you have.

Are you actually connecting to a Remote Desktop Server? Or are you using Remote Desktop to connect to your work PC? If you are connecting directly to your PC then remote printing will not work.
