IFD DNS Entries multiple environment(UAT | Production)

Dear Team,

We have multiple environment like UAT and production and we are trying to make DNS entries  for IFD.

UAT i.e auth.contasa.com, dev. contasa.com, org.contasa.com and internalcrm.contasa.com

Can we change DNS entries for  production environment. for example

PROD - DNS entries

authprod.contasa.com, devprod. contasa.com, org.contasa.com and crm.contasa.com

We are confused about these entries for both environment. Please guide me.

Regards,
Sidhant

You need one DNS entry for each organisation in your CRM deployments e.g org1.company.com, org2. company.com, org1uat.company.com and so on.

You also need an entry that points to the ADFS server, typically sts.company.com but it can be called anything you like provided the DNS name resolves to the ADFS server.

For a single deployment of CRM, you also need an entry for the CRM server that is running the discovery web service, often named dev.company.com but like the ADFS server you can name it anything you like.

And you also need an entry for the CRM server that is running the Web application server role, often named auth.

Where a company has one CRM server with all roles, auth and dev will point to the same server (the CRM server).

I recommend that you always use A records instead of CNAME records even if auth and dev point to the same IP address.

If you have more than one CRM deployment, I.e. you have multiple installations of CRM then you will need another set of DNS entries for the Web application server role and the discovery web service.

If you have more than ADFS deployment you will also need another entry for the second deployment.

Hope this helps.

Thanks feridun for this information.

Another set of DNS entries like below entries

authprod.domain.com, devprod. domain.com, org.domain.com and crm.domain.com

It would be fine?

Thanks,
Sidhant

Yes that would be fine assuming that authprod is the webapp server, devprod is the discovery server. Do org and crm represent CRM organisations?  if so, you are missing an entry for the ADFS server. Or perhaps one of org and crm is for ADFS?
