Apple ID, backups and device behavior
Hello,
I have an (old) Ipad, used by my parent. I own (and manage) her apple id and her backups on itunes. I am planning to get her another ipad however I am not sure if I can stage the new Ipad to match the changes of the old one (games mainly which do not currently use Game Center :) ) before I get access to it.
I will have have my hands on the old ipad in a couple of weeks but I want to buy the new one and prepare it with the (not-so-up-to-date) backup that I have. This backup has thousands of photos so if I can prepare the ipad beforehand, it'll be great.
Please advice if that makes sense and if you have any pointers.
Else, should I wait and do this:
1. Buy the new ipad, wait until I have physical access to the old one.
2. Back up the old one.
3. Use that backup to prepare the new one.
Note that I am not using iClouds

I guess it's best to hold off the staging for now. I'll just boot up the new ipad when I buy it and play with it to see if there's any faults with it. I guess my wait plan would be best after all.
