Outlook truncates e-mails containing some international characters

Hi All,

I've a strange problem whereby Outlook 2010 seems to be truncating some incoming e-mails from a particular sender. This sender uses the following signature:

**********************************************************************
This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed. If you have received this email in error please notify the system manager.

Department of Social Protection - Virus Scanned

Tá an ríomhphost seo agus aon chomhaid a ghabhann leis faoi rún agus níl sé le haghaidh éinne ach an té nó an t-eintiteas ar seoladh chuige é. Má bhfuair tú an ríomhphost seo trí earráid cuir é sin i bhfios do bhainisteoir an chórais.

An Roinn Coimirce Sóisialaí – Víreas-scanta
**********************************************************************

Sometimes, Outlook handles these e-mails perfectly. But at other times, the e-mail will contain only the signature and not the body text. When this happens, the English language part of the signature will be perfect, while the international characters within the Irish language part will be garbled, like so:

**********************************************************************
This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed. If you have received this email in error please notify the system manager.

This is the case even if I inspect the actual source code of the e-mail (so it's not that it's just not displaying: it's actually taking the whole mail from the mail server and only saving the above distorted signature text to the PST file.  If I inspect the same e-mail in webmail (through a browser), it's perfect.

I've already tried installing the Irish language pack to the PC concerned.

Has anyone any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I doubt if it is Outlook that is doing this - more likely to be AV or Anti-Spam software. They scan the messages and don't always put them back properly.
Going to be difficult to resolve though, because even if you whitelist the sender, the message could still get mangled because all the whitelisting does is tell the product to ignore the results - it still scans the message.

If the problem isn't apparent in OWA, then you are probably stuck with telling the user to check emails that are mangled through that method.

Simon.

AVG Cloudcare was the problem. It was set to leave e-mail absolutely alone, yet the problem was resolved when Cloudcare was uninstalled.
