Server drafts location not being saved Excel 2013

Hi, about a week ago, users reported an error in excel, it seems to be an issue with the Server drafts location not being saved Excel 2013. I have read forums on changing it, etc.
if I put a location in and then save it. open excel again and this location is blank.
the strange thing is, it works on one user. We are running a 2012 AD. nothing has been updated with the system in weeks. just a bit stuck on why I can't save the drafts location and now don't know what to look at.

I have looked at the permissions of the folder I ask it to go into
my user has full admin rights

thanks for the help

What are you putting into the server drafts location a unc path or a mapped drive? And you say it was working before until about a week ago--did it coincide with the latest windows and office updates last Tuesday? What is the exact error they are getting?

hi, we've tried a system restore, it was approx. over a month ago now.

I'm using a local address, e.g. c:\users\me\documents, etc
I've even tried c:\test
Lionel MMSmall Business IT ConsultantCommented:
So did the problem start a week ago or a month ago? Why did you do a system restore a month ago--for what reason back then? If you are using a local address then why do you have the "server" drafts location even selected--you don't need that if you are suing a local drive.

the date of this ticket is 27/05, hence a month ago now, at the time of typing it, it was a week.

in regards to the Server drafts location , maybe I should have named it save checked-out files to.
when I set it to office document cache and give it the local path, it doesn't hold it. I click ok, leave excel, open excel and its gone.
I have no requirements to force it on the server or local, local made sense, less permission issues.
Lionel MMSmall Business IT ConsultantCommented:
so are you using sharepoint?
total123Author Commented:
Nope, straight forward excel 2013 running in win 7 pro pc's , running over 2012 domain.
E installed office 2013 over 2 months ago, all working fine, then this issue appeared, when we try to do certain things we get an error that the server drafts location doesn't exist
Lionel MMSmall Business IT ConsultantCommented:
Please send me a screenshot of your settings? Thanks. Note that this says the location won't be saved until I actually edit an offline document. So I assume you have offline synching enabled? So if you do, have you checked "Synch" center in control panel?
total123Author Commented:
sync is enabled, should I disable it ?

Can't send a pic at the mo, as I'm out of office, will do shortly.
Lionel MMSmall Business IT ConsultantCommented:
no just look to see if there are any issues there. i assume you are using synch because you want your users to use offline files when not connected to the server/domain so if that is what you want no need to disable it, just check it.
total123Author Commented:
here's the screen shot, if I select server draft location.
offline sync is setup, but was last update in December 2014, there are no reported conflicts and we have never needed offline sync.

if I change the setting in excel to office document cache and pick a local c drive folder, that setting disappears.
Lionel MMSmall Business IT ConsultantCommented:
can you please right click on excel.exe and chose "run as administrator" and then see if it will save the change to using the local a local drive location
total123Author Commented:
I've done that and failed, doesn't save the location
total123Author Commented:
any other ideas
Lionel MMSmall Business IT ConsultantCommented:
The only other two I have is to 1) do an office repair and 2) remove office, reboot, reinstall

hi, I ended up finding the issue in the registry. it was looking at an old server we removed a while ago, why it has just reared its head now I don't know.
