VMware Update ESXi 5.0.0, 623860 to latest patch level

We currently have VMware Esxi 5.0.0, 623680 host  with 4 VMs.

We have been having problems with Windows TS servers randomly crashing and have been advised by MS to update the VM ESXi to the latest version

I'm a novice on VMware so any tools that can automate this would be great.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

If you follow my EE Article, the update procedure is the same process...

HOW TO: Upgrade from VMware vSphere Hypervisor ESXi 5.1 to VMware vSphere Hypervisor ESXi 5.5 for FREE

You just need to use the correct downloads.

The latest patch for ESXi 5.0 is

2015-02-26 Imageprofile ESXi-5.0.0-20150204001-standard (Build 2509828)

this is the command.....

 esxcli software profile update -d /vmfs/volume/your_datastore/ESXi550-201502001.zip -p ESXi-5.5.0-20150204001-standard

if you were using a 5.5 update, or you can download and update from the internet, if your host has internet access.

hmmmm, I wouldn't feel comfortable applying this, i've never done something like this before.

I thought it would have been easier

Easier option, is to insert the CDROM, BOOT the Server, and follow the Upgrade prompt.

Make sure you have a valid backup before you start of the VMs.
