iphone and exchange sync

I have a Small Business Server 2003 which has been working fine for years. Users have iphones and androids phones and sync using active sync and this works fine.

One user has suddenly started to have problems. The server crashed and since then his phone will ony sync to the day of the crash. Last Thursday.

The iPhone has had the account deleted and has been reset but it still will only download emails to last Thursday. The calendar and contacts fail to sync as well since the account was deleted and recreated.

I have tried setting up a different phone using the same account and the same problems happens.

Something has got stuck for this one user on the server end.

The server has been rebooted but still nothing.

Any ideas?

Delete the account off the device completely again.
Then install the hopelessly misnamed ActiveSync admin tool:

Use that to delete the device partnership (plus any others listed for the user).
Wait at least 30 minutes before doing anything else for the change to replicate out.
Then check the web page again to ensure that it has gone. Add the account back to the device again.

Hi Simon

Just to check. Is the active sync admin tool installed on the server or the iPhone. I am assuming the server.

Simon Butler (Sembee)ConsultantCommented:
It is an Exchange tool.
Wipe/Delete partnerships is the only thing it does.

Problems using Powershell and Active Directory?

Managing Active Directory does not always have to be complicated.  If you are spending more time trying instead of doing, then it's time to look at something else. For nearly 20 years, AD admins around the world have used one tool for day-to-day AD management: Hyena. Discover why

I have installed the Active Sync Admin Tool but where do I run it from?
Optima SystemsNetwork EngineerAuthor Commented:

I have run the tool but get an error when I enter the email addres in full. If I use a mailbox name it fails to find the account

However, I get the following error

I have got the MobileAdmin working and have wiped all the connections showing for the user. I had already deleted the account on the phone.

I left it an hour and then added the account again to the phone. I got all the ticks and it seemed to setup the account but when I go into the account if says there is a server error and contact administrator. No emails are received.

I have tried turning off SSL and no difference. I have tried it on a different phone and the same error occurs. However, other users are not experiencing any problems.

Please can you suggest anything else.

PS. I have opened OWA and can only see emails up to last thursday as well.
Optima SystemsNetwork EngineerAuthor Commented:
please ignire the post about OWA as its working fine
Simon Butler (Sembee)ConsultantCommented:
That suggests the problem is with the account.
There are very few troubleshooting techniques on Exchange 2003 as the information is simply not exposed in the same way as Exchange 2007 and higher.

The usual fix for most ActiveSync issues is to check that permission inheritance is enabled on the account (via the security tab of the user account in ADUC).

Hi Simon
The problem is that it downloads emails up to last Thursday and then stops. No newer emails are delivered to the phone. I have checked the owa and that's fine.
I disabled the mobile options on the user account in active directory and then waited and enabled them again. Still nothing.
I have also tried making the phone sync unlimited emails and 1 week.
Simon Butler (Sembee)ConsultantCommented:
Find the last message that is downloaded to the device in Outlook. Look for the message immediately after it and remove it. I have seen this before where there was a corrupt message which causes ActiveSync to stop.

Hi Simon
I ended up removing all emails on the Thursday and it's all fine now.

Hi Simon
I have just heard form the client that the iPhone has stopped receiving emails again. It was fine for a few hours but now has the same problem again.
ANy ideas?
Simon Butler (Sembee)ConsultantCommented:
I expect it is the same problem.
Most likely to be a single sender is causing ActiveSync to stop working.
