Surveillance system

Hi there,

Let me pick your brain...  i need to install a surveillance system for a customer, a total of 8 cameras, 4 indoor and 4 outdoor. We believe It will be an analog system because it falls within the customer's budget, the indoor cameras are the easy part, the question is for the outdoor units, is there a limit in the cable length for analog cameras? we estimate the four of them will be over 500 feet away from the dvr..

any suggestions and\or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Are you going to do the 'run' with coax? Then you should be good for 750/1000 feet for the video signal (using good connectors and cable).
Even then, you might start noticing a little video loss between 100 and 200 feet.

Power on the other hand, might need a little help.
Check this chart to see what you have to work with:

Another important difference is the maximum achievable distance for coax based analog  signals vs. CAT5 based Ethernet IP communications.
Coax links can deliver CVBS video streams and PTZ control functions in real time over point to point cable runs of up to 300 meters for standard grade cable and up to 500 meters for higher grade RG59 cable.
In contrast, structured CAT5 cabling in IP networks is limited to a maximum of 100 meters per cable run.
