"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

To do some testing before roling out a configuration you can use Cisco Packet Tracer:

You can use Netcat for testing you need to inform the client, IT staff/collegues that you are going toe do some tests
as this could trigger some alarms, stress and annoy everyone if they are not knowing you are doing this:

NET commands

A quick scan and grafical review of your network:

Without knowing more about your environment and the application and the exact issue, I'd suspect something amiss with the particular computers, the application or some permissions issue rather than a switch issue concerning the failing app. If this is the only thing that is amiss enthuse computers, then it's most likely not the switch as issues with that would show up with anything the computer is accessing. Or if it's a switch issue at the server end, then it would show up on all computers.

thanks for your comment  . this is bit out of the question . how can I check the best way to monitor my computer to the server network utilization . server may be out of the same physical location . in other words connecting via WAN or VPN .
A couple of things come to mind.  If the only traffic to/from the computer or server is it's connection to the other end, then you should be able to get statistics from the switch port the computer or server are on.  Typically in the real world that's not the case.  In that situation the only thing I can think of at the moment is to put Wireshark on your computer and then run it for awhile and filter only traffic going to the server.  Now, this won't give you a network utilization number, but you should be able to get a sense of what's transpiring between the two.

If you're trying to get a sense of that particular connection's usage relative to the whole network, then I don't know.
