Document Conversion and Management Software

A client of mine is using Toshiba's Re-Rite Software on an old server with a Toshiba Copier/Fax/Scanner.  The Toshiba has a template that will a user can use to scan a document, and the it places it in a set of folders on the server for file conversion to a word document and Re-Rite will grab the file convert it to word and then email it to the user based on what folder the Toshiba template put the file in.

The client upgraded their server and now needs to upgrade the Re-Rite software. I was looking for comparable software that might do what Re-Rite does above as this client only uses one feature and Re-Rite is more than they need.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

My recommendation is to stick with the Re-Rite software because it is integrated with your client's Toshiba MFP, which no doubt has the the Toshiba e-STUDIO hardware. That's why your client can use the one-touch UI on the e-STUDIO MFP control panel to select a template that performs the scanning, OCR, Word conversion, and emailing.

I don't know for certain if any third-party software can integrate with Toshiba's hardware to perform all of that workflow seamlessly. The only one that comes to mind as a possibility is Nuance's eCopy:

But I don't know if it will work on your client's Toshiba device. It is not in the list of supported devices:

But note this comment there:
Any devices that can scan to a network folder or send to an email address are supported through these options with ShareScan 5.2.
However, if you're doing this to save money (because "Re-Rite is more than they need"), this may not do it, as eCopy ShareScan isn't cheap.

My advice — stay with Re-Rite. Regards, Joe

Following up on my previous post, I'm wondering if you decided to stay with Re-Rite for your client. If not, I'd be very interested in knowing what software you selected. Thanks much, Joe
