Routine PC and laptop maintenance/housekeeping programme

To avoid re-inventing the wheel, can anyone point me at suggested contents of a routine (quarterly/bi-annually...) programme of office and remote worker desktop PCs and laptops maintenance?
I'm thinking of things like:

Antivirus scanning
Other malware scanning
Disk Defragmenting
Exterior and interior cleaning
etc

Anything else to implement?

Thanks in advance.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi,

You can add to this list:

Check installed software to see if there is no toolbars or unwanted softwares to uninstall.
Clean the registry and temporary files (Ccleaner can do this).
Check which softwares are launching at startup.
Check user profile size (treesize can help with this).
