Excel - count number of times a value appears in columns


Please offer in excel, similar to checking for duplicates across two fields in excel with a query), the formula used to count the number of times a cell value (character or numeric) appears in one or more columns.

put this in column B and drag down =COUNTIF(A:A,A2)

I would say if your data is huge then building a pivot table on it as it will group all your duplicate entries as one entry like it does in sql query and give you that how many times that value is present..
