I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

turn on tracing  for the session with dbms_monitor.

query v$session and grab the sql_id and wait events

if the code is written well it will have instrumentation,  check the logs,  possibly V$SESSION_LONGOPS

Before you dive in the pool, I like to look at the obvious.

What is being maxed out:  CPU, Disk IO, memory, etc...

Then you can look at what is using what resources.

For me, long running processes are waiting on disk.  I have a script that tells me what is doing A LOT of disk IO.

I don't have access to the exact script I use but this should be close:
select username , disk_reads, buffer_gets, address, sql_text
from v$sqlarea sa join dba_users du on sa.parsing_user_id=du.user_id
where username not in ('SYS','SYSTEM')
order by disk_reads
