Updating plain ESXi with HP ESXi image ?
Hi,
I'm having issue to my existing VMware ESXi server that was installed from plain vanilla image (not from HP) with the HP AMS agent.
Can I apply the following ESXi 5.1 Update 2 Patch 5 using the below steps for the ESXi server that is having problem now ?
1. Download ‘VMware-ESXi-5.1.0-Update2 -2000251-H P-5.69.2-N ov2014.iso ’ from the below provided link.
https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/details?downloadGroup=HP-ESXI-5.1.0U2-GA-JAN2014&productId=285
2. Connect to the iLO for the server
3. Attach the .ISO, boot the server from ISO
4. Follow the onscreen prompts to update the ESXi host.
How do I ensure the existing ESXi configuration is kept during the upgrade process ?
If not can anyone please let me know what's the step to backup the configuration before the upgrade ?
Thanks.

Thanks Andrew,
At the moment I need to reboot the ESXi server due to "can't fork" issue I'm having at the moment. So yes after the reboot I join it to the VCenter and issue the command above to backup the config.

Thanks Andrew,
So I assume the command that you mention can be scheduled to perform online backup for the ESXi servers.
But why you back it up daily ?
