SMART Check on Apple Time Capsule Disk

According to an Apple Support page,  one can also use AirPort Utility to check SMART status on an Apple Time Capsule disk however I've been unable to find the feature and of of course the Apple Support page doesn't say how.   Also, is there any 3rd party disk checking utilities that could do it; I have Tech Tools 8 Pro but it doesn't see the Time Capsule disk.

Use Airport Utility. Go to the Disks tab, then click on Disks. See the screen shot here:

Unfortunately the screen shot seems to be from an earlier version of OS X and/or I can't find the setting pane using Yosemite.

Its not a setting pane. It is from the Airport Utility which you will find in /Applications/Utilities.

Unfortunately, you seem to be right. See:  http://pondini.org/OSX/DU9.html

It appears that this function is available only on older versions to Airport Utility.

Time Capsule performs a smart check on restart .. so I'd advise you simple restart it.  Orange light will appear if there are any issues.

For some reason Apple have DECIDED that you don't need to see this information anymore and simply dropped it as a feature  and the latest version of Airport Utility v6 does not show the SMART status anymore .. you can download and run the older version 5.6
Download the Lion version of the installer
https://support.apple.com/downloads/airport
Download Pacifist (https://www.charlessoft.com/) to extract the application from the Installer and save it somewhere on your Mac (don't overwrite the v6 Airport Utility)
Airport Utility 5.6 will allow you to see the SMART status of the device
