I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You need Calendar. Set it to the start Date you want and then add -1 to Calendar.MONTH in a loop, adding to your combo box model

you need something like:

public List<String> getMonths(final int numberOfMonths) {
        final SimpleDateFormat formatter = new SimpleDateFormat("MMM yyyy");

        final List<String> months = new ArrayList<>();
        final Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance();

        for (int i = 0; i < numberOfMonths; i++) {
            final Date date = cal.getTime();
            months.add(formatter.format(date));
            cal.add(Calendar.MONTH, -1);
        }
        return months;
    }
