Google Inbox and Notifications on Android phone

I have an Android Samsung Galaxy S5 running the latest version of Lollipop.  Everything seemed to be fine when I was running the gmail app, but when I upgraded to the inbox app, I am no longer getting any notifications from inbox (I uninstalled gmail).  I have gone through all the steps suggested on various websites including google's troubleshooting steps for notifications in inbox.  Although notifications for my phone, and the inbox app are set in the phone settings, and notifications are turned on for everything in the inbox app, no luck.  It doesn't matter whether the mail comes into my main inbox or one of he containers, still no notification.

Any help would be appreciated.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I have had this problem for some time and had given up any hope of solving it. I was looking up information on where Google play music stores files, when I came upon a suggestion to ch Rd ck your sync settings  (for a different reason ), and once I turned sync on on my phone (not site when it was turned off), I started getting notifications.

Thanks all.
