Customized permissions

I am using SharePoint 2013.

I have granted users "Edit" or "Contribute" permissions but is it possible to only allow them to delete items that they have added and not any other list items or documents that were added by others?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

It's not possible to create a security level like that no.

Best you can do, and it's not that great is to create a view showing only their items using the [Me] parameter in a filter of created By.

I know this is no sort of substitute for the permissions you want.

If code were a possibility you could create an event receiver to cancel file deletion if the person wasn't the creator. Though I get the sense from prior questions you're in a compiled code free environment?

Thanks Jamie!

The even receiver you speak of, is that a server side solution or can that be done client side?

It's server side. It can be done declaratively in SP2013 calling out to a Web service however I have no idea whether that version would allow cancellation of a deletion in the way coded event receivers can.
