I have a basic website running windows authentication on iis6 and iis7
The 401 error redirection works ok from the local iis box, but it won't work from a remote machine's browser

Any ideas why?

Here's the global.asax

<%@ Application Language="C#" Inherits="Custom401.Global"%>

Custom401.cs class

using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Web;

/// <summary>
/// Summary description for Custom401
/// </summary>
namespace Custom401
    public class Global : System.Web.HttpApplication
        private System.ComponentModel.IContainer components = null;

        public Global()

        void Application_BeginRequest()
            Response.AppendHeader("X-UA-Compatible", "IE=EmulateIE8");

        protected void Application_EndRequest(Object sender, EventArgs e)
            HttpContext context = HttpContext.Current;

            if (context.Response.Status.Substring(0, 3).Equals("401"))

                context.Response.Write("<script language=javascript>self.location='/ErrorPages/AccessDenied.aspx';</script>");

        private void InitializeComponent()
            this.components = new System.ComponentModel.Container();

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.
