International SITE - SITE VPN

Hello..
I am planning a SITE - SITE VPN for DR Site located in India and my Production site located in UAE.  RPO Assumption will be 1 hour. SQL Log shipping  planned for database. SAN (DELL) replication also. Initial sync will be planned manual with Backup/restore and there onward automated.

Anyone share their experience about latency about the VPN and RPO in result.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You might try a test first to see if SAN replication over VPN is practical. VPN is normally slow because the connection is normally much slower for upload than for download. I have not seen VPN used for this.

At a minimum, you would need a symmetrical connection with the same speed up as down.

Hi..
I will be using symmetrical lines for internet and thereby constant and same upload/download speed of 10Mbps.

In that case, set up a VPN connection and test the replication. 10 Mbits/sec is slower than a fast LAN (by a factor of 10), so you want to test this to determine the feasibility. However, you have a much better chance with the symmetrical 10Mbps line.
