I trust you checked/updated all firmware and BIOS versions to the latest or at least the recommended versions?
There's a list of the minimum supported BIOS to be found in this document.
Maybe the firmware of the disks is not up to date and causing issues?

There's also a Dell installation guide that might give some pointers

yep, i looked at both of those.  The problem I am having is installing windows 2012 R2 in UEFI instead of BIOS installation mode. BIOS mode seems to work fine (sans it's known limitations) however, UEFI does not work at all. first time in over 20 years I could not figure out how to install a flippin' O/S!... VERY frustrating!!!
Hmmmm yes UEFI can be a problem sometimes... Don't really know how to help... You obviously can boot and start the installation... So it just hangs after disk config or??

Which controller are you using? If a PERC 6 or H700 did you create AND INITIALIZE RAID? You said the BIOS was up to date, but equally important is the controller firmware for compatibility with the native PERC driver version. What make/model drives are you using?
what size is your raid container for windows?  if 2tb or smaller, any reason you need to use uefi?
Did 2012 come pre-installed on this Dell? If yes did you try using the diagnostic/install partition to install? Further most Dell come with a Dell OS install DVD (can't think of the proper name right now); that does all the prep work for you prior to installing--updating BIOS, downloading latest drivers and then takes you into OS install--do you have one of those, if you do try it.
Further most Dell come with a Dell OS install DVD...

this has been replaced with the lifecycle controller which is part of the system (F10 during post)
it also allows for firmware and bios updates in addition to OS provisioning

Like I stated previously...Problem solved myself.
The problem is that is all you stated. You aren't allowed to delete a question saying "I figured it out myself" without documenting the solution. Or you can say you give up.
I figured it out before anyone else could help me resolve the issue.
