USB handshake, software to record the steps

Anyone know a way to record in a text file the handshaking process when you first connect a USB device.

Yes, you can capture them from Event Viewer

Windows has a buiilt-in tool called Logman which you can use to output a text file of USB hub activity (linked to from that page).

This is used by the free summary monitoring tool USBView but depending on your own experience you could write code to quiz Event Viewer for the details.

Ahh - so you're wanting to look at devices like phones & cameras?  I assumed you were looking at plain data storage.
