special character in panel title formatted with HTML

I have a panel and I am setting the text - I want to use the >, or <  symbol
pnlToolTempValue.Text = "<html><size=28>"+"<"+ toolTempValue + "°" + "</html>";
but it does not show up = the temp and the degree symbol do but I cant get the greater than or less than to appear - probably because I am formating the text with HTML
does any one know how to add the symbols

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Try:

pnlToolTempValue.Text = "<html><size=28>"+"&lt;"+ toolTempValue + "°" + "</html>";

use   &lt;   for <  and &gt; for >

You have to use the HTMLentities form for them.  Less than is &lt; and greater than is &gt; .
pnlToolTempValue.Text = "<html><size=28>"+"&lt;"+ toolTempValue + "°" + "</html>";
pnlToolTempValue.Text = "<html><size=28>"+" &gt;"+ toolTempValue + "°" + "</html>";
