"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Here are my standard recommendations of cloud storage sites:

Amazon Cloud Drive

Box
https://www.box.com

Cubby
https://www.cubby.com

Dropbox
https://www.dropbox.com

Google Drive (previously called Google Docs)
https://drive.google.com

MS OneDrive (previously called SkyDrive)
https://onedrive.live.com

They vary in the amount of free storage they offer and in their features/functions. You should experiment with some (or all) of them to see which one works the best for you. For sharing documents, spreadsheets, PDF files, etc., the amount of free storage from all of them is probably sufficient, but if you think you'll exceed the amount of free storage provided, take a careful look at the cost of adding more — it varies.

My favorite at this point in time is Cubby (from the LogMeIn folks). It is free for up to 5GB. Individual files may be up to 2GB. I like the way it allows you to designate which of your folders are cubbies — you simply right-click on a folder and select the menu pick that says "Make this folder a cubby" (which, by default, will include all of its subfolders).

It will allow you to share the files that you want to, as it provides a link to the cubby that you may send out in an email. It is private in the sense that only the people who have the URL (which is a long, random series of numbers and letters — much like a very secure password) may access the cubby. Regards, Joe

Also, see http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Data-Storage/Nine-Cloud-Storage-Providers/
so make sure the service provider has multiple OS support, they encrypt file contents + file names, and do true versioned backups.

Points to consider:

- Make sure you check out disaster scenarios for access if files are time critical, e.g. Line failure, ISP equipment failure/bankruptcy etc, cloud failure, cloud supplier going out of business etc
- volume, is comms link up to the traffic ie fast enough (NB use 10 bits per byte)
- initial seeding of cloud, how long will it take to transfer everything
