SMTP Gateway AntiVirus

Ok... So I'm pretty sure I know the answer, but I want some confirmation.     I was asked to enable Gateway AV for SMTP.   Using a Firebox XTM-33.   It basically creates a SMTP Proxy for all SMTP traffic.

Now we aren't using exchange or any other mail server.   Mail is hosted at the ISP.

Am I correct in assuming that an SMTP Filter won't help.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You need to be scanning the email before it hits your email server. Afterwards is too late. When you collect email it is coming via POP3/IMAP, not SMTP.
