Set Firefox as the Default Browsr

Hi everyone,

I've discovered an issue in my environment where whenever our users click on a link in Outlook 2010, Word 2010, or a PDF, it fails to launch. We've determined that the solution to rectifying this is to set the default browser to be Firefox. (We're opting not to use Internet Explorer due to application compatibility) I can do this manually, but as there are over 500 computers, I'd prefer not to have to sneakernet it.

All of our computers are Dells running Windows 7 x64. I've come up with the follow batch file.

FirefoxHTML="C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -osint -url "%1"
FirefoxURL="C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -osint -url "%1"
assoc .htm=FirefoxHTML
assoc .html=FirefoxHTML
assoc .shtml=FirefoxHTML
assoc .xht=FirefoxHTML
assoc .xhtml=FirefoxHTML
assoc FTP=FirefoxHTML
assoc HTTP=FirefoxHTML
assoc HTTPS=FirefoxHTML

Even after running this script on a couple of computers and rebooting them, this still fails to set the default browser to Firefox. Is there something I'm missing?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I've found a solution for this here:

By importing a registry key for the current user, the default browser changes.
