Moving A Word Press Site

I have a WordPress site I need to move to a different host.

I found this by searching the topic: http://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/how-to-safely-move-wordpress/

The case I have is addressed by the two options given in that link. The existing WordPress site is at the address www.rain1.com/new-site. It was developed there & we took a shortcut when we made it live by removing all the previous non-WordPress files from the root, then putting an index.php in the root that redirects to rain1.com/new-site. Also had to few a few other glitches.

Now we want to move to a new host & just call it www.rain1.com at the new host.

I DO NOT want to move the site from the folder new-site at the current host to root, then move it from there.

Can someone give me guidance on that either using the information in the link or pointing me to another approach that will achieve both goals?

Or should I move it to the new host leaving in in the new-site folder as step1, then move it to the root as step 2?

Thanks

Hi,

are you using a theme other than the default theme?

You have to be careful when moving the site,  I would suggest you move the site files and database to the new server, get it all working and then edit the site name and settings via admin to ensure the correct path is set for the domain , close the admin and then move the files to the root on the new server.

If you attempt to change the site admin after moving the files you are likely to loose some settings because of they way they are encoded in the config table.

I had this happen and I lost all the site content

first thing.. BACKUP everything!

I don't understand.

We moved site files & database to the new server. It does not work. Images are missing & the footer is gone. We are using the Bee theme.

That's the purpose of my question.
