Iphone error " Cannot get mail, the connection to the server failed"

I have a few clients getting the error  "cannot get mail, the connection to the server failed" on their Iphones.  The mail arrives from the exchange server but not before clearing the error message.  I have tried deleting the account and adding it to no avail. As well, I have reset the password, again to no avail.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

What version of Exchange have you got?

Have you run the Activesync test on https://testexchangeconnectivity.com to see if there are any errors shown?

Is it just a couple of users and everyone else is fine?  If that is the case - it could be a problem in the mailbox, so moving the mailbox to a new database might resolve the issue.

If it is only a few users and they are getting the mail the error "Cannot Get Mail" means they lost the internet connection for a moment.

Are they using wifi or the data plan.

Seen this happen using either.

Power cycle the iphone usually corrects this.

What IOS are the iPhones?

Another test would be to use owa in safari  see if that works
