Switch Compatibility

So we have 2 floors with 1 cisco switch on each floor and fiber between them. On my main floor we have a 6509 running a WS-sup 720-3b IOS 15.3. On my other floor I have a 4507R and Im looking at purchasing a WS-X4516-10GE for its 10GE capabilities between the switches using fiber. I would add a WS-X6704-10GE to my 6509 to connect them. I assume we would be able to use our current fiber and get a 10 or possibly 20GB pipe between the floors. My questions is would all this work are the 10Gb modules between the 4507R and the 6509 compatible?

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

as long as the X2 transceiver you use is compatible with the fiber, it will work fine.

Also you should check on the type of fiber you have between floors. Check the table here and verify that your distance and fiber type will work for 10Gb:
