Email link does not work when tapped

My website has a logo on every page, which contains our contact information, including a mailto link.  The link works, when clicked, on a desktop or laptop.  But it does not work when tapped on an iPad or iPhone.  Please advise how to fix this.  The logo is found on the top of www.mauitradewinds.com     I will eventually want to make the telephone number clickable or tappable, too, but my immediate focus is on the mailto link.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

If it's a possibility, please look at removing the mailto in favour of a contact form for many reasons that I've outlined in an article I've written on the subject:

As for the phone, that's easy. Wrap the phone number in an anchor tag <a> and Instead of mailto:xxxx@xxxx.com use tel:8888888888 in the href

You are using a script which is not detected on tablets.  Have not delved too far into it.

Thanks for the points.

Must say that if you want your site to be responsive on phones and tablets then do away with the image map.  You could recreate that logo reasonably easily using css.  Have a look at bootstrap (getbootstrap.com) for more on a responsive design.

Thank you.  I'm in the process of removing the image map.  The entire image will link to our contact page (and include an instruction to click or tap to contact us),  and our contact page will have phone numbers using the phone anchor.

Rob, I've used the tel protocol in our contact page at www.mauitradewinds.com/contact.htm   However, I don't know if I need to start the phone number with "+1". which I've seen in some articles.  Please advise whether the html on that page is sufficient, or needs adjusting.  Thanks.

Only need to include +1 if you're going to have international callers. Doesn't hurt to have it though as it will make no difference to your local callers.
