System Center VMM 2012 and SQL 2008

Hi All,

I am trying to setup a test environment for SCVMM 2012, and i hitting point where i cant get the Install to get past the SQL DB part.

We have a SQL server 2008 on our network but not on the Domain.

I have been able to contact the SQL DB using ODBC data sources wizard and see the DB that i have created for the SCVMM, but when i try to connect to the SQL using the SCVMM wizard it keeps saying "The Remote SQL Server administrator credentials provided are not valid BLah Blah BLah"

Does anyone here know why this is happening please as i have checked and the SA password is correct for the SQL DB and i have also tried creating a USER in the Admin group of the SQL server, but still no joy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

It could be due to SQL account didn't have any permissions to the vmm server. Try to add the SQL account as local admin on the VMM.

How do you add a none Domain SQL server account to the admin group when it cant find it in its network directory?

You have to add SCVMM admin account in to SQL server login with sysadmin permissions.

Ok can you check the permissions for this account in sql server.

1. connect sql server using ssms.
2. expand security folder > Login
3. check the property of SCVMM login account and assign sysadmin role if not already have.

This Strange, i have now got the SCVMM to connect to the SQL DB, whats strange is that when i use the local user account to try and connect to the DB it says wrong username or password etc, but when i use our domain as the prefix it connects.

There is a domain account called scvmm in a group for SCVMM that i have created on our DC this is what i have used to connect the SCVMM to the DB.

SQL is not on the Domain but i can still connect using Domain credentials???

Any idea why this would happen?

Cheers

Because Domain group\account has added in sql server logins.  If you will expand the security\login folder in ssms you can find that names there. But local user account does not exist there.
