Remove / add host to vcenter

Hello EE,

I have vcenter server running with 3 hosts being managed . I wish to "remove" one host ,( lets call that HOSTA)  , and add another host (HOSTB) to migrate vms from HOSTB to a server already in the vcenter ( HOSTC). This is necessary due to licensing restrictions on vcenter. However, I do not want to delete or cause any impact to the HOSTA guest vms that I am removing from the vcenter , this should remain online and intact on the host . Can you please provide the steps .

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Do you have/licenses for vMotion, to move, live migrate VMs from one server to another ?
davesnbAuthor Commented:
No , I will be taking the guest vms offline and then moving them.

Okay, so the first thing to do is

1. Power OFF ALL VMs.

2. Right Click the VM > Migrate

3. Select new host, to migrate VMs to...

4. Remove License from Host to be removed.

5. Right Click Host and select Remove.

6. Right Click Datacenter and Add New Host

I think I may have licensing available to add a new host into the datacenter . Do I need to take the guest vms on the HOSTA offline first before I add the new host into the Datacenter , it mentioned about lockdown mode ..?
Andrew Hancock (VMware vExpert / EE MVE^2)VMware and Virtualization ConsultantCommented:
You should be able to add a new host to the datacenter, without affecting other hosts.

vCenter Server is just a mangement tool, VMs run on hosts, and are not affected by vCenter Server.
davesnbAuthor Commented:
No I mean the guest vms that are on the HOST that is being added into the datacenter, will they be impacted at all by the move Ie they are web servers, will they be impacted at all if teh host they reside on is added into the vcenter datacenter object?
Andrew Hancock (VMware vExpert / EE MVE^2)VMware and Virtualization ConsultantCommented:
VMs which are on the host will not be impacted by adding or removing from vCenter Server.

They are being hosted by the host, vCenter Server does not change the VMs.
