Adding new Exchange 2010 server - migrating to it.

Due to various hardware issues with our current Exchange 2010 server (standard), we want to setup a new Exchange server 2010 to the network and move all mailboxes to the new one.

I have migrated from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 in the past, but I'm not sure what the correct procedure is to do the same with the same version of Exchange.  For instance, will the following need to be done:
- /PrepareLegacyExchangePermissions
- Creating an interim connector between the old and new server

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks in advance,

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

All you need to do is install Windows Server with all of the prereqs and then install Exchange 2010.

Depending on the current server you are replacing, (if it is holding all of the roles) You would just install all of the roles on the New exchange 2010 server (make sure you patch it to the same version as the current one).

- Routing will be automatic
- configure all of your virtual directories to match the current Exchange server
- Change your NAT on your firewall to point to the new Exchange server
- Start moving the mailboxes to the new Exchange server
- Mail will continue to route to the mailboxes on the old Exchange server
- decommission the old Exchange server once all of the mailboxes have been moved.
