dns server wk2003 is dieing and have built a duplicate (will upgrade once dns on 2003 is stable.)

I have backed up the register the zones from the systems32/dns and the forward and backward look ups.

I have imported the backs reg, Placed the zones in the appropriate folder but I am missing something. I do get an error

The DNS server was unable to open zone _msdcs.LILYPAD2 in the Active Directory from the application directory partition ForestDnsZones.LILYPAD2. This DNS server is configured to obtain and use information from the directory for this zone and is unable to load the zone without it. Check that the Active Directory is functioning properly and reload the zone. The event data is the error code.

the old server was a domain controller called LILYPAD2. The new server has a  controller called ALTERNETB  burt I thunk that should be LILYPAD2 as well. Can I add a 2nd controller based on this server and make it LILYPAD2 ? Help please ASAP.

if you have a second domain controller and the AD zones you are referring to are all AD-integrated, and you have verified there are no replication issues between the 2 domain controllers, then you already have a copy of DNS on the new domain controller and no need to attempt a backup of the zones from the first server.  DNS backups are part of the system state backup.  The new server does not need to be the same name; as long as clients point to the new server for DNS it should be fine.
