export and import DNS entries.

Hi,

I need to export all entries from a Windows 2003 DNS server's forward look up zone and import the exported file to another Windows 2003 DNS server (in different domain).

Is it possible?

I was also testing import the exported file on the same local DNS server but do not see the import option.

Please advise.

You should be able to simply copy the .dns files from C:\WINDOWS\system32\dns on the existing server to the same location on the new server. Then restart the dns service on the new server.

Why are you doing this? Are the two domains in a trust? Wouldn't a conditional forwarder to assist in name resolution be a better option

we need to get rid of those 2003 servers.

Why do want to export dns from one server and import the same in different domain Server?
Can you confirm if the servers are in same domain or different?

If the server are in same domain the dns zone can be replicated or in different domain you can create conditional forwarders or create secondary zone for dns name resolution. But this will require source domain to be active.
