VI question. Delete a line that has a specific word in it.

Hello, my name is John Smith.
I have been a Smith for years.
Everyone just calls me John.
They call my wife Karen.

...ok, so the above is a text file in vi

I want to vi textfile.txt
/John dd

The result would be just:

Everyone just calls me John.
They call my wife Karen.

all sentences with john will have been removed.

How do I do that?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.
