asked on
group policy
Hi,
I have a server I need to shutdown but it has some profiles on it with some home folders.
I would like to know how I can ensure that folder redirection is not pointing to that server for any users or selected users in my list. Any way I can check this from Group policy?
Server is 2003 OS and Domain controllers are 2008. Is it better to check it on the domain controller, client machine or the server I am planning to decom?

You could check what policies are applied on to a PC by running GPRESULT and looking at the policies applied. Folder redirection is a user policy. Take a look at that policy in your GPMC and see which OUs they are applied to. You could disable the policy through there.

Gpresult isn't giving me much information. I need to check this on users machine. so you suggest I run that on user machine? If yes, I tried this and cannot see folder redirection. anything specific to look?
thanks
thanks
The best way to identity what policies are being applied IMO is using RSOP.msc on the clients machine. You will be able to drill down and actually view the policies that are being applied to the computer and user that is logged in.
