Why cannnot the tacacs users access failover ASA5555 ?

Hi Expert, we set up failover ASA. but the tacacs users cannot access failover ASA5555 ? when the user access the ASA, the password do not work. In order to solve the problem, I create new username in the ASA, and then the new user can access the ASA. At same time, tacacs users can access other devices, which means tacacs ACS is working well. Any one can give me some suggestion ? Thank you

the asa will be using the active ip of the appropriate interface to communicate with tacacs, even from the standby unit. when you configure local user, you are bypassing the tacacs process completely. if you change the local users password, you should be able to verify which account is being used - either local or tacacs.

from both asa's you can use
"test aaa authen <tacacs group name> host <tacacs host ip> user <username> pass <password>"
to verify if any tacacs authen functions from the standby unit. you can also use
"fail exec standby test aaa authen <tacacs group> host <host ip> user <username> pass <password>"
from the active unit to have the standby send a request. here it fails and the tacacs server log indicates that the standby is sending with the active ip address. so the response goes back to the active, which drops it because it knows nothing about it.

why would you want to access the standby in an active/standby ha design anyway?
