Which laptop to buy on eBay

Hi,

I need a laptop to enter info into excel for a job. I have MS Office software that will work up till Windows 7. Which one should I purchase, and why.....I mean, on eBay, unless you know a better place to get one. Thanks in advance.

You have some pretty limited needs, so any laptop that is running Windows 7 would work.  The bigger question for me is "Do you really want to buy a laptop on eBay?"

You take a chance that anything on ebay may be a lemon...
Use pay Pal to ensure that you can get a refund if the product is not as advertised.
Pick refurbished win 7 PCs with specs. that meet your requirements.
As mentioned already, your needs are very basic and any PC that has a dual core CPU (that means an age of almost a decade) will work fine. Even older PC's with Pentium M CPU's and 2GB RAM should still work fine.

I suggest you look for a seller that is close to your place and that allow it to be picked up (as far as I know you can filter your ebay searches for distances). If the seller doesn't mention whether it can be picked up or not, you can usually ask before you start bidding.

That way you can save on shipping costs and pay in bar, and it is more difficult to get ripped off as you have personal contact with the seller. It is also easier to sue someone as then your local jurisdiction applies.

When you pick up the laptop, make sure that the seller has disabled any BIOS or HD passwords.

Ok, say I go with a Dell refurbished Windows 7....what features should I absolutely insist upon and which ones would be nice to have?
You don't need anything special. The most basic PC will fit your needs. Otherwise just get the one you like best. Personally I prefer Laptops with a high resolution screen, and it should not make too much noise. But those are personal preferences.
I agree a nice high res screen wold be good. Or, if you really need something bigger, factor an external monitor into your budget. Dell is fine. If you are doing anything "big" with your spreadsheet, you may want to look at 64-bit Windows with at least 4 GB of RAM.  32-bit Office will run fine on the 64-bit computer assuming the version works with Windows 7.
@sheana11  - Thanks and I was happy to help.
