Best solution for backup of desktop data

I am a developer and want to back up my data to our network storage server.
What is the best software, solution, method to back up my data on the server.
1. Should I use some way in Windows backup scheduled everyday to copy files (If so how can I do it)
2. Is there any software available to backup/restore the same so when my machine crashes, I can get up and running fast on a reformatted machine. (Please guide)
3. Is there a way to save the settings of my installed software like IIS, SQL server, Visual Studio, Office etc.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

What OS?

Windows 7 has builtin backup tools, one that makes an image based backup of the whole system, so you can just restore the complete system should the disk fail, and the other that more or less makes zips of the directory you want to backup to your LAN.

Better and easier to use are 3rd party tools, like paragon's backup and recovery. this makes image based backups, and can do incrementals after the first full backup, which reduces the time needed.

That has similar backup options built-in like Windows 7, and besides that, paragon works with it too. A further option Windows 8.x has, provided you are using the default setup where it uses an m$ account and not local accounts, use data (the data that is within the user's profile) is automatically synchronized with your m$ OneDrive account.
