iPad and Word documents

I just purchased and iPad.  Never used one before.

I downloaded a Word document from a Gmail attachement, but when I went to view it it was not formatted correctly.

I was assuming I could have viewed (not edited) the document, but I was not totally correct

Then I tried to save the document, and it appeared to save it to two files (the docx contained 2 pages).  I could only attach one or the other to a gmail message.

So what app do I download that will allow me to download and upload attachments.

I do not need to edit word, just to sownload, view and upload the files

Is there a free app?   I heard about something called idocs, would that work

Any ideas?
