Linking Microsoft Excel Or Microsoft Access To Ultipro HR reporting/query tool

I am working with Ultipro, an Human Resources software that has a reporting/query tool that enables users to create reports that can be downloaded to Microsoft Excel.  I have created a prototype Access Database that I upload the Excel data from Ultipro so that other calculations and reporting can be done.  

The Excel data from Ultipro is uploaded to the Access Database once a month so only at this point is it identical to Ultipro.  What I am curious to know is there a way to connect Microsoft Access directly to Ultipro so the data is not static (at month end) and is real-time.   It doesn't even have to be Microsoft Access.  I could imagine that the Power Pivot table functionality of Excel would work well too.

Does anyone have experience is doing this with Ultipro, or other similar software?  Thanks.  - Tom

and study the document in Google Preview, it seems that lots of options are available other than the simple reporting.
I would address your request to Ultipro support asking for guidance. They probably have tutorials and guides for many scenarios of which some should fit your need.

What "other calculations" are you doing in Access that cannot be done in Excel?
I am thinking that you could skip the "Access" step altogether...

Thanks for the two responses.  I am gathering more information about UltiPro, and perhaps was a bit premature about asking the question.  But the question still stands.  I believe UltiPro is using Cognos Business Intelligence Crystal Reports for existing reports and downloads to Excel.  

So the question may be how can Excel/Access be linked to the interactive "Business Intelligence" in Cognos?  It seems (and I don't know much about this yet) Cognos is a "generic" data gatherer/reporting tool not unlike what an Access Database could do.  And, as I begin to understand them, what Excel Power Pivot could do.

So back to the original question:  Is there complication in linking Cognos with either Access or Excel so that any (for instance) Excel pivot table could be refreshed to get the most current data in Congos/UltiPro.  Thanks.
