Crystal Reports - question 1 from a new user with a Microsoft Office vba background....

Hi EE,

At work, I use Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word with VBA as a report writer/analyst.

The institution is moving to another report writer tool (not Crystal Reports - the one they bought will be be nameless for now... :-)  )

==

I programmatically have Access VBA execute a Word Mail Merge.  The Word template is multiple pages.
I got help on EE in the past to do this:  create on Mail Merge word doc, then burst it into baby docs, one for each student, and save the student doc with the student's name on the server

The "nameless-report writer" has difficulty creating a more than one page report template,  If the template was one page, it can do a word-mail-merge.

I have seen You tube videos of Crystal Reports that show many rows down the page, a traditional report.

In my scenario, one row, creates a report/

If I have 200 students, the result would be with my vba, 200 baby report. Each report with several pages.

Can Crystal create these smaller reports. Or Does crystal just create one big report.

thx, sandra

Hi mimcc,

Thx for your response....

1. Below, I uploaded a sample of a multiple page word template where just the first page has dynamic fields for the student info.... i

Wanted to know if Crystal can do a report like this, or does it give you just the space of 8 1/2 by 11 paper to layout the fields?

2. Can you provide an example of a 3rd party provider?

Thx Ido, for writing, as well:

When you wrote this:

1) >One of the 3rd-party Crystal Reports Desktop Schedulers can take a Word document acting as a template with Crystal formula references acting as tags and automatically replace the tags with the dynamic values from the report. Single values, as well as tables can be populated this way while maintaining the MS Word formatting.>

Did you mean the CR excels in doing continuous rows style reports, but if I have multiple pages like a form letter per row(student), am best off designing in tandem with Word?

2) >If the Crystal Report is grouped, using a bursting mode, each group level 1 can populate the template, save to a dynamic file name (based on fields/formulas in the Group Header/Footer, and even email the resulting file to a dynamic email address (again, based on field/formula in Group Header/Footer. >

The above paragraph is exactly what want to do....  :-)

Did you mean, that we would need a 3rd party tool to do the above, or CR can do the bursting in its product.

I watched You tube tutorials on grouping.... If bursting can be specified from CR
if you have time, can you please upload a screen shot.

tx, sandra
As stated above: "One of the 3rd-party Crystal Reports Desktop Schedulers..."
In other words, this is not Crystal Reports -- it's a 3rd-party tool that adds functionality to Crystal reports.
