FilemakerPro 10 archiveing

I want to delete data from a database but keep it around in case I need to take a look at something, unlikely but, 'just in case'. Is it possible to archive it in someway?
I can export the data in the records but is it possible to export the layout or will it just be a lot of data?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I suggest you simply make a copy of the database, put it in a folder with the date in the name, e.g "2015-06-16 DB Archive" and zip it and store it in at least two different places or put on medial like a CD. You can do this periodically.

Be sure to quit FileMaker entirely or if you are working in a multi-user environment, you'll need to either stop Filemaker Server and then take a copy of the live files, or use a recent backup - you are making regular backup right  :-)   (If you are using FM Server, make sure you have backups scheduled in the "Schedules" area and running regularly).
