online transfers slow- is that to be expected? ~cloud backup~

cloud backup seems to to take forever, especially if it is in GBs (instead of MBs).. even with mostly available broadband, is it to be considered that the first time doing a backup to cloud is always going to be painfully slow and the sync process will take minimal time?

Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

it depends on your connection speed. DSL usually has a fast download link, and a slow one for uploads. Often only business accounts come with similar upload and download speeds. For backing up you need good upload speeds too.

For cloud backups you would normally first do a full backup that can, depending on the amount of data, take several days, and once that initial backup is done, you do incremental backups which only backs up the changed data after that first one. So after the first backup you only have a small amount of data to backup, and then it will be much faster. Depending on the backup software or service used you can merge the incremental backups into the initial one so it is more manageable.
