How to migrate data and folders from SBS 2011 Standard to windows server 2012 R2 Essentials

TechIsaac used Ask the Experts™

I am migrating from sbs 2011 to windows server 2012 R2 Essentials .

I installed 2012 , setup domain controller (AD, DNS and DHCP) and added users
with same permissions as sbs 2011.

This is my first 2012 install.

How do I migrate the data/folders to the new 2012 server.  I am suffering
from information overload.

Both servers are still on the network but I have not done any client connections yet.

The sbs 2011 server is still in use (8 users).  I have created a unique server name for the
new server.

Can someone assist me.

Thanks in advance,

You need to install the Essentials system in Migration mode and join it to the SBS domain.  You'll then have 3 weeks to complete the migration process.

Honestly, if your having this much trouble, my professional opinion is you need to hire a pro with experience to migrate you - then take over the management if you prefer.
