"Connection timed out" error when trying to move files on my FTP server.

I set up an FTP server using Synology DiskStation 1515+. The idea is for clients to be able to connect to the FTP via an external IP address and move files to and from it. I can connect to the FTP using said external IP and browse files with no problems. However when I try to move multiple files at once it starts the process and then stops it and gives me the following error message:

"An error occurred copying a file to the FTP server. Make sure you have permission to put files on the server. Details: The operation timed out."

It sometimes allows me to move individual files but its not very consistent. I can also connect to the FTP using its local IP and move files anyway I want with no problems.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
